For a bug, say which device and OS version you use, what you expected, and what happened. If you can, attach a short Markdown file that shows it.
Common questions
Which devices does Write support?
Write is available now on Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro, and requires macOS, iOS, iPadOS, or visionOS 26 or later. Universal Purchase covers every platform, so one purchase works on all of them. There is no Android version.
Where is my document saved?
In the file you opened. Write edits ordinary .md and .markdown files. It does not convert them into a private notebook format. Line endings and wording you did not change stay as they were.
How do I see the Markdown source?
Turn on Show Markdown Syntax. The same document shows the exact source. There is no second editor and no preview pane. Turning it on does not change the file.
How do diagrams work?
Write a fenced block tagged mermaid. The diagram settles in the same surface. There is no second preview. A flowchart LR block, such as Open to Write, is enough to see it. Show Markdown Syntax reveals the fence, and turning it on does not change the file.
How do footnotes work?
[^note] settles to a raised number. The definition stays in the document and is numbered from the first reference. Choose Footnote from the + menu or the Format menu. The marker goes after the selection, and the note opens at the end of the document.
Click or tap the number to read it, then Go to Note. Return to Reference, Next Footnote, and Previous Footnote are in the Format menu. Show Markdown Syntax shows the [^label] source. An exported PDF lists the referenced notes after the text. [^label]: https://example.com is a footnote whose body is that address. A definition inside a quote or a list stays where you wrote it.
How do equations work?
Turn on LaTeX Equations in Settings. The setting starts off. Turning it off leaves the text unchanged. Inline math uses $...$ or \(...\). A $$ line, \[...\], or a math fence is a display equation. Amounts such as $5 and $10 stay text.
Click or tap an equation to edit it. Show Markdown Syntax reveals the LaTeX, and Copy LaTeX copies that source. An expression Write does not set stays as the source you typed. Export PDF draws the equations it can set, and asks before printing one as source.
How do I export a PDF?
Choose Export PDF. Write makes a PDF of the document. Equations are drawn as math. If Write can't set one, it asks before printing it as source. Referenced footnotes are listed after the text.
Do I need an account?
No. Write has no account. If you save a file in iCloud Drive or another storage provider, that service syncs the file under its own policy.
When does Write load a remote image?
Only after you choose Load Remote Images for that document. Until then the image stays unloaded. The request sends the image URL to its host and does not include the rest of the document, the filename, or cookies.
What happens to raw HTML in a file?
Write shows it as text. It does not run HTML, scripts, or embedded pages from the document.
